Vavam Vampire #01 — Thrusting into the Air

Thanks. Great.

Impressions:

I can’t say that adaptation has fixed any of the glaring problems of the premise being a gay vampire raising a teenage boy to be his ideal sexual conquest. If anything, zooms in and out on his bulging crotch as he thrusts it wildly into the air have made things so much worse. It’s twenty years out of date if it wanted to capitalize on mocking Michael Jackson for the allegation, and after the last however long of this being a repugnant right wing attack line, it’s hard to get on board with the humor of how silly it all is.

I guess call it a massive culture gap, though I suspect that even Japanese people would probably be a bit squicked out like this given the moves in stuff like Persona and Like a Dragon to be a lot less dumb about these things. It’s not like there’s amazing animation or style that would be carrying it otherwise either though. It’s not just one dude or premise dragging it down. But nobody has a cheat power and it doesn’t take place in an RPG, so it’s likely in the top 10 for creativity at least for the season. Somehow. Astonishingly. That’s the positive thing I’ll say.
