The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon delayed until 2026, but will release alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 version

NIS America have today announced that the latest chapter in The Legend of Heroes franchise, known as The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon, will be delayed until January 2026 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 & Windows PC in Europe and North America. While that is bad news, there is some good news to be had, which is that a Nintendo Switch 2 version has been confirmed and will be released at the same time as the other platforms.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon was originally announced for a later 2025 release, but with the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 the decision has been made to push back the release of all platforms to ensure that all versions of the game release at the same time, and to allow further refinement to the game. Here is what Toshihiro Kondo, Nihon Falcom President, had to say about the announcement of a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game:

“With the power of the Nintendo Switch 2, we expect players to have an even more enjoyable experience. In fact, this will mark the debut of the Trails series on the Nintendo Switch 2, and I personally have high expectations for it. Please continue to look forward to the release!”

It’s also been shown, in the packshot images, that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game is expected to be a Game-Key Card release (which requires the game to be download before being able to play the game).

As a reminder The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon takes place after the events of The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II, and features characters from Trails of Cold Steel, Trails into Reverie, and Trails through Daybreak, to present a story that will encompass all of Zemuria. Naturally, The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is a turn-based RPG and will retain gameplay elements seen from past games in the franchise. In addition the game will feature both English & Japanese voice-over with English text/subtitles.

About: Van Arkride and the members of Arkride Solutions are back, and this time the future of the entire Zemurian continent is at stake! The people of Zemuria await the launch of humanity’s first foray into space with bated breath. A sudden invitation from Marduk to cooperate in a high-tech training exercise sets Van, Ashen Chevalier Rean Schwarzer, and Father Kevin Graham on a collision course with the secrets at the very core of Zemuria. Their paths may diverge, but the ultimate question remains the same: Just what lies beyond the edge of the horizon?

The previously announced Limited Edition, which contains a copy of the game along with an Art Book, Steel Book, Soundtrack CD and Acrylic Clock, will also be available for all platforms exclusively from the NIS America store in Europe and North America with pre-orders starting soon.

As it stands The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is scheduled for a January 2026 release on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 & Windows PC, with further release details to be announced. The Steam page is also live, along with an official website.
