Once more for the road: “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
Impressions:
At least the obnoxious tanuki were mostly sidelined for this episode, but that one robot decided to pick up the slack with random screaming, and then for the climax of the episode, everybody began screaming. So, not exactly ending on a high note in the humor nor emotional department. It’s five minutes from the end of the series, and I’m debating whether I want to give up because the script is someone fell asleep holding the A key and they decided to run with it.
There’s also a dozen more interesting ways they could’ve gone with a random human coming back to the hotel that involve characters actually doing anything. Yachiyo, or the lady, could’ve tried to kick out all the aliens now that the ‘real’ people the hotel is for came back only for them to predictably leave. Or they could have been ungrateful jerks. Or Yachiyo struggled with being abandoned for so long without them caring in the slightest about the hotel or her. But even those C tier sitcom setups are too much drama. This is nice. But it’s different. I wonder if something’s wrong with me. Things change. Indeed they do. Really makes you think. Inject “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA” at whichever part you think it fits the best. I’ve seen more substantial existential musings from meme dumps about mashed potatoes. Both the angst and the resolution are completely spontaneous and happen both in a bubble and as much time as it takes for an especially girthy sneeze.
I had to go back to the early episodes to try to figure out what I saw in this show, and just reminded myself that the first episode too mainly featured Yachiyo going “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH” and then the second episode was likewise one note, so I think the answer was “it aired on Thursday in a miserable season,” and looking through the things I passed on, I’m not sure there were any better options anyway. At least next season has multiple dildo-focused shows. No, really.
