The Monsters Next Door #01 — Handsy Cat

Existential Angst: The Anime.

This isn’t the crow show. That one’s about a royal crow court. Again, NHK-only with no online streams, so apparently just in the wind right now, and I’ve got other things to do with my day. Like play Unicorn Overlord.

Impressions:

Not even good drama over it either. I suddenly gained sentience and magical powers, but I’m a little self-conscious about them. …And? Where are we going with this? The crow dude tells you that you need to learn to transform, for no particular reason, and then it takes you two whole tries. First, half-success. Second time, full success. This wasn’t exactly some grand achievement that you struggled with, had some epiphany, and overcame. I kinda could do it. Why don’t you try again? Oh, yep. Got it down pat now. Great conversation.

The girl’s side was at least a little more interesting as it involved some actual mysteries about her missing father that everybody’s assuming was just eaten by the void, which is apparently something that happens, and she’s sad about that, but her dead grandfather tells her feeling sad is bad. Which that in itself raises a lot of questions, but the entire ghost of grandpa wandering around telling people to bottle up their emotions while riding around town on a ghost horse that’s actually a cucumber is… a lot to take in, while also making it seem far more interesting than it actually was. Because it was boring. Really, really, really boring.
