My Deer Friend #10 — Lessons on Hay Fever

Thanks, narrator.

Since we’re into the double digits, I made the mistake of glancing at what horrors the fall season holds, and was met with something like 17 RPG-world shows, and over 20 sequels/reboots. Good goddamned god, anime industry.

Impressions:

Just last week, I was talking about how there’s a zombie deer disease that could certainly be a decent vehicle for some varied jokes on a horror/thriller flavor. So we start out with a segment about the deer getting sick. With zombie deer disease? No. With seasonal allergies. But she does crazy deer things? No, not really. She just yells about it and overreacts a lot while the narrator constantly interjects to explain the hypothetical jokes that could have been made. Repetition sure is the best vehicle for humor, he repeats about this show for the sixteenth time.

For the middle third, we do the thing again where they add a random new generic NPC to overreact while Noko does her normal things for the… third? fourth? time. And then ending segment is reminding us that the one grass obsessed girl is still obsessed with grass. All the excitement of the worst parts of Sakuna. God, do I long for the story and character driven comedies of yore. Your random episode of Galaxy Angel or Pani Poni Dash had more going on with any random throwaway segment than this entire episode did.
