Oh, okay.
Impressions:
This episode was clearly going for tragic, but you can’t murder like 90% of the remaining cast off-screen while the rest are just screaming rage monsters and have it not be darkly funny. A third of the episode was spent on them regrouping and vowing to keep fighting and then smash cut to all of them dead and all the survivors either begging for death or about to hug zombies to death out of despair. It’s so over the top that it makes me laugh, not lament their plight. And 9S was always pretty pathetic, but reacting to everything at this point with inarticulate rage screaming and then stabbing it because his GF was killed by the things they killed themselves in the millions is really taking it to the next level. These stabbings include posthumous messages from her.
It very much gives the impression that they realized they’re running out of episodes and haven’t wrung out enough pathos so it’s time to drop rocks on everybody. No longer relevant to the plot, so, I dunno, kill them, wail in anguish, go fight Ganon. So these battle hardened rebels who have been fighting against swarms of killbots with guns, missiles, rocket launchers, and whatnot now have to succumb instantly to a few shambling zombies. By the eeevil antagonists who have been ensconced in their tower not actually doing much of anything and just leaving everybody alone. Boy, what a finale we’re shambling towards.
