The Elusive Sammy #21 — Rice-Fu

This has been such a disappointing season.

Impressions:

We’re definitely just killing time until the season ends. Random dude pops out of absolutely nowhere, spider sense tingles and oh, guess he’s my new mentor. Maybe if I was more attuned with this particular slice of Japanese history, the name would have meant something, but I doubt it. This kind of namedropping has become very, very old hat in this time of everybody and their uncle being some random reincarnation of historical figures. You’re Musashi? Wow. So are these fifteen other people this year alone. Actual historical figures, especially obscure ones aren’t much different. And your big lesson is “think outside the box?” Great talk.

So it ends up largely a filler episode. Both halves end with the announcement that a very poorly thought out assassination will be attempted, and one has already been announced to fail, and I’m pretty certain this Jump thing is not going to unceremoniously kill off the main antagonist in his first apperance. Also, what ever happened to all the antagonists shown off at the start of this season? Wasn’t one a surfer dude? We shelved all that without even getting underway? …Yeah, that sounds about right.
