I know what romance novels really are.
Impressions:
I enjoyed the first few episodes of the original run for the deadpan snarky commentary on what a messed up world the whole imperial court deal was alongside some actual mysteries, meeting new characters, interactions with them, etc. But all that vanished into a holding pattern, as did the mysteries. It just became “Maomao putters around, occasionally something dramatic happens that everybody else can’t be too bothered to do anything about.”
And so we return after nine months to… Maomao putters around, and contemplates literacy among the sex slave compound. And chases a cat. …Yeah, I don’t think this is the way to win me back. Not that I feel all that negative about this episode itself. It’s hard to while drowning in an endless torrent of cheat power RPGs. Anything that’s not… THAT… gets a modest bump in my eyes. But it is all the same things that were frustrating me by the end of the first run and few of the things that I originally liked, so I don’t know how long that sentiment is going to last.
