Good Food Every Day #01 — Loud Girls Being Loud

The contrast between the two shows is easy to identify.

Impressions:

It’s not a good sign when it’s three seconds into an episode and I’m reaching for the volume controls to slam it downward because my ears are already starting to leak blood. This is the danger we run when we start things off with a shrill Jar-Jar Binks character shrieking about eggs. And then move into girls shrieking about club organization rules. At least it provides a good contrast to the previous show, as this does nearly everything far, far worse. So much more of the attempts at humor is based off suddenly loudly screaming as an overreaction. Its attempts at drama are girls monologuing to themself about how awkward and reticent they are right before… abruptly loudly screaming. Silly faces and expressive humor? I hope you like loud yelling. And nasally voices.

If this is meant to be about cooking or food, it’s no more in depth on that subject than literally anything else in anime because over-animating food montages has been such a pervasive trope ever since the cabbage incident. Even Food Wars goes into more culinary depth than this episode. And maybe it’s personal, but I don’t know a ton about cameras, but I do know a lot about food, both in eating it and producing it. I’ve worked in food trucks and restaurants. I make my own pizza dough. I have baked the forbidden babka. It’s not actually about food in any way. It’s about girls clutching their cheeks and going “Tasty!” And yelling.
