The Pokémon Company International have today announced that Pokémon Legends: Z-A will launch physically and digitally worldwide on 16th October 2025 for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. A digital upgrade pack, that allows owners of the Nintendo Switch version of the game to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version, will also be available on the games launch day from the Nintendo eShop.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the latest entry into the Pokémon game franchise and will see players explore Lumiose City with day and night cycles. During the day players will be able to roam the city, catch Pokémon in the game in the cities wild zones, or do battle with other trainers in the battle zones. At night players will be able to take part in fierce battles with other trainers as part of the Z-A Royale, a competition to find the best trainer.
As announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A will launch physically and digitally for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 with physical pre-orders available now and digital pre-orders becoming available on Nintendo eShop from 5th June 2025. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A will offer the same gameplay content as the Nintendo Switch version, but with improved performance and visuals for Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. As a reminder this is a “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” rather than a game built for the Nintendo Switch 2 (such as Mario Kart World).
Those who purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 version should still be able to play the Nintendo Switch version on their original Nintendo Switch console. An upgrade pack (that upgrades the Nintendo Switch version to the Nintendo Switch 2 version) will also be available to purchase from the Nintendo eShop once the game launches.
For the time being Pokémon Legends: Z-A is scheduled to release on 16th October 2025. A Pokémon Direct Presentation, which is expected to reveal more details about the game, has also been announced for 22nd July 2025. Further details about the game can be found on the official website.
