Bandai Namco Entertainment have recently released, through the Nintendo Direct Presentation that took place on 31st July 2025, that DRAGON BALL: Sparking! Zero will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on 14th November 2025. The full length trailer also reveals that an upgrade will be available from Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game at launch.
DRAGON BALL: Sparking! Zero, the latest installment into the Sparking (or Budokai Tenkaichi) franchise, was originally released onto the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC in October last year. But now, nearly a year on, the game will be making its Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 debut. The game is expected to feature all of the same content as the original release, with DLC to be sold seperately. As a reminder the two main offline modes of the game are as follows:
Episode Battle: This Mode will let you replay iconic fights from a single characters perspective, with Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, Frieza, Future Trunks, Goku Black and Jiren all having their own stories to tell. These stories will be told from the perspective of the respective character, with key moments and fights inspired by encounters in the anime.
Custom Battle: This mode will allow players to create their own battle scenario and share them with others or challenge themselves to pre-made scenarios by the development team. Custom Battles including creating an intro and outro for each character appearing in the battle, with custom dialogue options (although these will not be voiced) as well as dictating how the battle will unfold.
Upgrade from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2:
Revealed during the full length trailer, DRAGON BALL: Sparking! Zero will feature an upgrade option where players can upgrade from the Nintendo Switch version to the Nintendo Switch 2 version. Specific details have yet confirmed (such as whether it is a free upgrade or paid) but based on the trailer here is what we know.
Nintendo Switch Physical Owners can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game. Based on the trailer the physical cartridge is required in order to play the game.
There are also some additional details for those that upgrade.
Those that upgrade will not be able to carry-over Custom Battle data. Save data, for characters unlocked and story progression, will transfer to the Nintendo Switch 2 version
Those that upgrade, and play on a Nintendo Switch 2 console, will not be able to battle online or offline with Nintendo Switch 1 console users.
