Sailor Moon – Season 2 (Sailor Moon R) Rated by the BBFC for the UK

It’s been two months since we reported on a BBFC listing for Season 1 of Crunchyroll’s UK Blu-Ray release of Sailor Moon, of which has still yet to receive a release date, but thanks to a new age rating listing on the BBFC website we can now confirm that Season 2 of the original anime series, otherwise known as Sailor Moon R, has been rated for a UK release.

The BBFC rating for Sailor Moon – Season 2 was added on the 11th May 2026 and it has received an overall rating of 12 for sexual threat, mild sex references, moderate bad language, moderate violence, injury detail, and threat. Majority of the episodes within Season 2 of Sailor Moon are either rated PG or 12, which is more in line of what I would expect this series to receive. As a reminder the first Season of Sailor Moon received a 15 rating due to the Episode “Learn How to Be Skinny from Usagi” featuring references to body image and eating disorders, and sexual harassment.

Rating aside, we now have further definitive confirmation that Crunchyroll (UK) are going ahead with individual season sets for Sailor Moon, starting with Season 1, and that it will be the uncut version of the series in both English and Japanese. The first season will contain Episodes 1 – 46 while the second season, known as Sailor Moon R, will contain episodes 47 to 89.

Crunchyroll originally announced Sailor Moon for a UK release back in October 2024 at MCM Comic Con in London, but it wasn’t until earlier this year when it was confirmed that the series would be released as complete season sets in steel book form. As it stands we still don’t have a release date, or visuals of the steelbook, for either Season 1 or 2 release; but with a rating for each season now confirmed its just a matter of time before these details are finalized and shared online.
