Anime Limited, otherwise known as All The Anime, have today confirmed through social media that Mamoru Oshii’s Angel’s Egg will receive a UK Cinema release on the 17th June 2026.
This version of the film will use an all-new 4K restoration of the film, of which was supervised by director Mamoru Oshii, and was previously screened in cinemas in North America by GKIDS.
Angel’s Egg: In an underwater city, a young girl takes care of a large egg she holds carefully in her arms. A boy with a gun arrives in search of a bird he saw in his dream. At first, it seems as if feelings of sympathy are developing between the two.
The film is a creative collaboration between acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), who wrote and directed the feature, and revered artist Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D). The film beautifully intertwines Oshii’s thematic reflections on philosophy and theolog with Amano’s distinctive ink painting style, culminating in an arrestingly beautiful hand-drawn allegorical fantasy.
Angel’s Egg has previously received limited cinema screenings across the UK as part of the Scotland Loves Anime film festival, but this will be the first time that it has received a wider cinematic release in the UK.
At the moment the film has been confirmed for a UK release on 17th June 2026 with further details, such as screening and ticket availability, will be confirmed at a later date.
