Bye Bye, Lara #02 — Just Out Walking My Fish

I’m a little confused.

Impressions:

I’m still kind of baffled by the setting. I didn’t expect the evil witch to have been reincarnated as a pet fish and the magical girl pet. At the same time, listening to her is what got you into this mess, so why on earth would we be going back to her for advice and a path forward? Also, apparently the evil fish witch talks to everybody? The knockoff Alexa understands her, so it isn’t just the other girl being special. It also tries to declare that she’s special because she’s a princess and has some special princess light predicated on true love that all princesses have that’s the spark to restore the kingdom. But not the other princesses. They don’t count? They could’ve have saved the kingdom with their light? They all ended up bitter spinsters? But let’s circle back to the witch fish for a moment. She was there when girl met girl. So this girl took her pet fish out on a walk when she went to do her midnight shadow boxing training in the middle of the street? Do I have all this right?

It’s still different, I’ll give it that, but now that it’s not running through the motions of adapting some classic story, it’s flailing a lot more. Not quite to the utter chaos of Ghost Concert last season, but it could be on that path. Or it could just do the most obvious thing in the world and ‘true love’ being familial stuff with the awkward friendless girl who they keep announcing has no friends and isn’t it unusual that she has a friend now, who’s totally not a friend. The OP doesn’t give me a lot of hope that it’s going to take the bonkers route, but I also can’t explain in the more boring scenarios why you’d have the evil witch hanging around as a comic relief pet either.
