Anime Limited, in partnership with North American distributor GKIDS, have today announced that the classic Studio Ghibli Film Kiki’s Delivery Service will receive an IMAX Cinema release on the 21st August 2026 and a wider 4K Cinema release on the 28th August 2026 with both versions being shown in dubbed and subbed formats. Tickets can also be booked online through participating cinema chains on the official website.
Unlike past releases of Kiki’s Delivery Service this new version has been remastered in 4K, much like how Princess Mononoke was remastered in 4K and shown in cinemas last year, highlights the great thought and care put into every frame of the film, celebrating the authentic craftsmanship of Studio Ghibli’s detailed artwork.The film, which debut in 1989 in Japan and is based on the novel by Eiko Kadono, is Hayao Miyazaki’s most adored features from Studio Ghibli. The hand-drawn, animated feature is produced, written, and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and features a musical score from Miyazaki’s long-time collaborator, the renowned composer Joe Hisaishi.
Synopsis: Children’s Japanese anime.13-year-old Kiki is a young witch who, at her mother’s request, is setting out on a year-long apprenticeship with her black cat in tow. She ends up in a little coastal town, but the locals have a ‘no witches’ policy. She befriends an old woman who fusses over her, but then one day she wakes up and realises she can’t make her broom levitate nor can she talk to her cat. What will Kiki do?
As a reminder GKIDS acquired the UK distribution license to all Studio Ghibli films following the insolvency of Elysian Film Group and have partnered with Anime Limited to bring Kiki’s Delivery Service to the big screen and also have plans for Arrietty and Whisper of the Heart.
In the meantime UK cinema tickets for Kiki’s Delivery Service are currently available to book online through the official website. Kiki’s Delivery Service will be available in IMAX from the 21st August 2026 with a wider cinematic release in 4K to follow from 28th August 2026. Both IMAX and 4K screenings will be available in dubbed and subbed format, so be sure to check the online cinema listings before booking.
