Disney+ are once again expanding their anime selection as during the weekend the streaming platform added the 2004 cyberpunk sci-fi film Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence and the entire season of the TV series I’m Quitting Heroing. Both titles are available to stream in dubbed and subbed format.
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence: In the year 2032, the line between humans and machines has been blurred almost beyond distinction. While anti-terrorist unit Public Security Section 9 detective Batou is still trying to cope with the disappearance of the Major three years earlier, he is assigned the case of a new model of female-looking robots created for sexual companionship that have started slaughtering their owners with no apparent reason. In the course of the investigation, almost entirely cyber-bodied Batou and his still largely human partner Togusa will take on ferocious Yakuza thugs, devious hackers, government bureaucrats, and corporate criminals to uncover the shocking truth behind the crime.
I’m Quitting Heroing: After saving humanity from the despicable Demon Queen, Leo Demonhart is rejected by the very humans he shed blood, sweat and tears to protect. Feared because of his awesome powers and with nowhere else to go, an exiled Leo seeks a position in the army of his former nemesis! To keep his new position, Leo must now whip her forces back into fighting shape, but the job is easier said than done when you’re the hero who defeated that army in the first place…
The addition of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence to the Disney+ platform is part of a recent deal between Anime Limited and Disney+ where iconic films will be added to the platform. In the past few weeks this deal has seen both AKIRA and YOUR NAME added, with other titles such as MIRAI and BELLE also expected. I’m Quitting Heroing meanwhile seems to be part of a new wave of HIDIVE/Sentai Filmwork titles being added to the Disney+ platform, but Anime Limited did release the series on Blu-Ray in the UK.
Regardless; both Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence and I’m Quitting Heroing can be streamed on Disney+ in dubbed and subbed format in the UK with more titles expected in the near future. As a reminder a Disney+ subscription is required to view content on the platform.
