Anime Films I Watched 2025

Whisper of the heart one of my favourite anime films

Spring weather is doing my head in right now rain, sun, rain then hail and here I am sitting in a jumper still, hurry up summer!

I am finding I have some more time on my hands lately so sitting down at the computer figuring out what I want to discuss usually comes instantly but now there are too many ideas to decide on to discuss. I always like going outside the topic bubble even though I do want to discuss some seasonal stuff for my next post. I am currently enjoying the fall season. This time I thought it would be nice to highlight some anime films I have seen this year. It’s been ages since I discussed an anime film.

Demon Slayer Infinity Castle (September)

Ah Demon Slayer, one of few anime to make me fall in love with a sibling struggle story and this was the first film in a trilogy series, there was beyond expectations for this. The end of the beginning started here for all the demon slayer core group and the film was epic from high volumes of emotional tension and connection to mind bottling animation that was another world. The precision of the action scenes were unreal and my eyes were staring everywhere over the screen, visually bright and absorbing action scenes it is a lot to take in.

One thing I love most about this anime is keeping the standard of humor to relieve us from the confronting and heavy parts. This was an emotionally taxing film (in a good way) so I greatly appreciated the comedy from the characters’ interactions. I find it amazing that the effortless ability of the series keeps the high standard. I had no idea this was over the 2 hour mark beforehand, the only negative I would say for me with the film was one character’s backstory dragged for a bit, you got the emotional hook but it took up too much time for me. The delivery of this character’s hardship was solid but it wasn’t necessary to drag on a bit too long. I saw this in the dub and every performance was to a high standard especially the addition of actor Channing Tatum, he can do voice acting anytime. Overall it was an epic experience.

Maquia: When The Promised Flower Blooms (April)

Mari Okada, anything by this lady will be emotionally beautiful and this film has been on my list for too long. Well and truly this one was a rollercoaster of emotion, the core theme of a race of people who do not age and a young girl Maquia finds an orphan baby, that’s when this magical connection happens. Maquia raises this child as her own and discovers motherhood filling a void of loneliness but what the characters go through displays through the devastation of events, a bond will remain there. It is still there at the end of it all. I was crying every five seconds, tragically beautiful everything that happens in this series, the god damn animation doesn’t help either haha.

Maquia discovering this orphan springs to you, tragedy only awaits the path of motherhood she has chosen, maybe in some way yes but then the other side no. The once loneliness that is felt is replaced with newfound memories and when that happens you never wish or get to feel like that again. The experience Maquia goes through propels her forward despite what plays out for her. It’s not a film I could watch again as it made me ball my eyes every five seconds but is beyond worth the watch if you’re feeling the need to cry.

The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie (August)

The Harem sisters’ conclusion was beyond satisfying. I love my harem series if you didn’t know and this series knows how to do it right, it’s rare a harem series where the main guy picks a girl. The majority never end that way so when I’ve come across one, my faith is renewed every time. This is a good harem hands down, really funny and the interactions between Futaro and the sisters is hilarious. One thing I love about this series is each sister has expressive feature time for why they fell for futaro and their own feelings towards their sisters. I felt this was pretty essential in this instant, the 2 hour mark did that enough.

This movie marks the big decision of Futaro choosing between the sisters and finally acknowledging the sisters feelings. It was a mutual respect everyone had among each other and that is really satisfying to see. Everything was being nailed here for how I wanted this series to conclude itself and I really loved it. I wasn’t expecting to get emotionally as I did, it was like damn. So if harem is your thing this series is worth your emotional investment time for sure.

I thought I had watched more but from looking at my ani list this is all I can find, I know I have watched two more but I will probably do another. I need to have another look haha. I can tell you I have one lined up for this month to watch that I would like to do a blog post on as it’s right up my alley.

See you next post!
