Should I Plead One Ultimate Thing? #08 — Protagonistier Power

Yeah, that’s what was missing. Yet another dude declaring her to be the most special protagonist ever.

Impressions:

Like the PA Works show, I’ve given up on this one and just want it to be a trainwreck, and like the PA Works show, it instead insists on date episode after date episode. The entire first half is a hike in the mountains just so they can show everybody struggling but the protagonist, who helps them to their feet and thoughtlessly abuses one of the indistinguishable pretty boys lavishing attention on her. It’s her right, after all. And not just that, but wait five minutes for him to ‘betray’ the woman who’s been nothing but physically abusive to him because he’s evil, so it’s morally justified after the fact too. Which is definitely how these things work.

Even the return of the single interesting part of the show, the murderous antagonist lady, didn’t help matters, mainly because all her schemes were instantly thwarted by the power of “being the protagonist.” Literally, she just says “nuh uh” and wins. Setbacks are important in a story, and this was not one in the slightest. After that little two minute dick swinging and betrayal, she passes out and, wouldn’t you know it, but there’s yet another pretty boy suitor whose entire world revolves around her and yet does nothing but spews out exposition. We’ve climbed from prince to god, he bequeths upon her even more special protagonist power, as if she has ever once been lacking, but now she’s extra ultra super special, and whoops, after that info dump, episode’s over. To recap, a hike date, exposition, exposition, punch, exposition, exposition. Story really moving a mile a minute here. Every character important. No wasted time or characters.
