Was that even five seconds long?
Impressions:
Entire episode was devoted to just the VTuber, and I think things were probably better for it compared to last week’s split focus, even if every single thing that happened was the most predictable ever. Whenever someone turns off a camera or microphone, there’s always another. That’s an ironclad law of stories. It continues to be much better about the characters and interactions than most of its ilk, taking advantage of the cliche walk-in-on scene to berate them for being dumb about it and bringing it on themselves, and keeping the punishments for the other fanservice pratfalls more deadpan rather than constant screaming.
It was a little disappointing that they didn’t go deeper into the tech behind VTubing as that’s one of the few things that I find actually really interesting about it. The whole bit about being your real self and breaking character is standard piffle, and not at all necessary for streaming success, which is like 25% luck and 73% corporate backing, with a hojillion streamers not using avatars at all. I think it would’ve come off better for me had they acknowledged breaking character as a gimmick with something more substantial, but it’s inoffensive enough. And better than the entire last week of episodes, so maybe my baseline is just set way too low at the moment.
