Anime Diary #13

October was my last diary entry, whoops. Well I skipped past summer and were into the beginning of Autumn over here

Hello everyone,

March is here this coming weekend and it’s going to be a drench fest with 6 months worth of rain, as Aussie summers are a dry desert half the time. But I highly doubt it will be a drowning and rain will come more in April. Saturday we had continuous rain but then nothing has happened today as of writing this. I’ll tell you what has happened lots of anime watching since my last diary entry and truly enjoying my new freedom with my time alone.

This post won’t contain any new seasonal anime from this year (yet) as I had been focusing on the past 2 years of seasonals. I have missed out on it but now I will be looking at the new season from this year during March. Seems to be a lot of amazing anime coming out but we have the attitude we will get to it when it times or save it. A friendly reminder that anime watching is not a race even though the world and community makes it feel like it. Once you’re caught in that consumption swarm, life and hobbies are no longer fun.

So let’s see what has been on my list this time around.

A.D Police

Last year I did not watch as much older anime as I liked but this 2026 has started out better and I’ve watched the short 90s OVAS. Plenty have their own flare and make you feel completing something short is an accomplishment within your busy life. I don’t know what made me miss the cyberpunk scene but A.D Police filled the void of a utopia drowning in AI technology that weighs heavily on how our modern day looks now.

A.D Police special task force who tackle the technology androids known as boomers, because where they go hangwire, A.D is the first call away. Only three episodes focusing on different cases were confronting for me, especially the second episode focused on the transferring of bionic parts to the human body. I think the confronting part was the crisp 90s animation and detail of the bionic parts of these boomers and showing a window that it could be a future thing.

There is a typical sexualised nature and trend in this OVA and you can’t get away from that within different 90s anime, I am sorry to tell you. But that side of things doesn’t bother me, only fair to mention to those it might be a no go for. Watching this 90s OVA really revitalised something for me and I have been on old watching kick since.

Mechanical Marie

This is a season from last year that looked cute. I started randomly last year. Marie the robot who is Noble heir Arthur’s body guard but little does he know Marie is very much real and a famous legendary martial artist. One wrong move she might lose her life but falling in love was not a part of the plan. I am so surprised how adorable and ridiculously funny this show is and nobody has mentioned it at all. The episodes consist of constant life threatening attempts on Arthur and avoiding Arthur finding out the truth, also the addition of Marie 2.0 actual robot that Marie finds an insult to have around. There is no going wrong with this show, it’s fun and funny. I have been watching on my lunch breaks at work and the perfect series for that vibe.

Anne Shirely

This is it. This is the best coming of age show I have ever watched was everything I have ever wanted from the genre. From the first few seconds of episode one you are enchanted by the most imaginative mind Miss Anne Shirely who sees the world through different eyes. The world is seen full of all its wonders and does leave you feeling ashamed at how many of us don’t share in the same mindset due the madness that is life. Following the journey of an orphan to mask her unhappiness with the most optimistic mindset possible through life is the most joyous thing to watch. This anime gives you a new heart and mind towards life is how I was feeling, an absolutely amazing series that anyone will connect with easily.

My Hero Academia Final Season

Ugh well. . . I watched it and wrote my own letter post about it. What can I say other than the most fitting ending it could have given to one of the most amazing anime out there. It was full of hope and beyond satisfaction.

Magic Knight Rayearth

Finally another clamp title off my list wohoo! It goes in my second favourite clamp because girls are transported to a world, they have to save it but unlike in Sailor Moon, they get weapons, powers and a robot bitch!! These elements are utilised throughout the series and you are in for some action, nobody is standing out doing nothing, the girls are doing things, things are happening, I LOVE THIS FACT. I definitely love season one more than two but season two had added material that wasn’t from the manga but it made it fun and hilarious. This is one of best isekai for me during the 90s, it’s a hard contender next to Escaflowne and that is saying something.

Rurouni Kenshin 2023

I can hear the ums and ah towards this entry due to the history behind this series regarding the manga author but I don’t think that should matter towards this amazing series. This is a re-adaptation of the manga and I was surprised we were getting one, I have completed season one. I have enjoyed it so far but certainly doesn’t possess what the original 90s series has. This adaptation is lacking in humor, it’s there but not a strong presence. The animation is nice, the voice acting is good and I like the dub of it. Will it beat the 90s anime? No it wont but that had it’s own issues but I’ll happily continue purely because I love this anime so much.

May I ask for one final thing?

Noble lady Scarlet is not your average lady, for one to settle a disagreement talking and reaching an understanding is the way to go: but not Scarlet. We like to use our fists and beat the shit out of jerks. If you loved comedy like Ouran Highschool Host Club for the english dub then god you are going to love this. Coming home from a long day and turning this on will make life feel fun again, you are laughing every episode and the english dub is so spot on ugh so good! It has those old school anime reminiscence. It has been a long way since an anime of this high tier has made me laugh left gasping, there is not a bad thing to say, you are in for the most entertaining watch!

My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s

I heard no-one talking about this Isekai much, my first interest peek was from a instagram video and I ended up bingeing the thing. I enjoyed myself surprisingly, there are good things here and some things that weren’t but I still want to know what happens and know there will be a season 2. This is a fun, easy isekai to get into if you are not the biggest lover of the genre as these days it feels oversaturated with so many. We have an assassin, elf girl and black cat you follow but this season was set on the foundation set up of what is going to take place next season. I liked how the main party met, I wasn’t expecting some romance to form even though it was quick to happen, I just rolled with that. It is your typical kill the demon lord mission. I like the main character Akira. He is methodical in the beginning and slowly weans off as the series goes on. Akira listened to the opinions of others too much which was annoying. There are hits and misses with this but for me I will continue to see where the story goes.

Pass The Monster Meat Milady

Noble lady Melphiera is not your typical lady; she eats monster meat using magic to extract the bad poisons and apparently is yummy. Duke Roger sees no problem in this interest of Melphiera and supports her towards it in the most endearing way. I was loving this romance binge but towards the end it spoiled it for me as four of the episodes focused on one plot point and missed potential relationship growth for the main pair. In the end I felt time was wasting but I feel annoyed it went like this so it’s not to recommend as I know others will get annoyed also. But if you really can look past that everything else is good, English dub and characters I love, so funny. Facial expressions of Melphiera made me laugh most and her internal thought process. So I guess I say give it a go.

Plus-sized Misadventures in Love!

Yumeko was living an unhappy existence and suicidal attempt leads Yumeko suffering memory loss and she is a completely different person. From a withdrawn introvert to a bright and optimistic individual who will not let anything bring her down. This change affects those around her but brings positive changes for her. This series is an absolute hoot my god, Yumeko is hilarious in everything she does, it’s refreshing to see a plus size female and she doesn’t give a shit about what others think. The moments calling herself a catch to her coworkers is a refreshing trend to see and makes Yumeko’s character shine. There are two parts to this series: a pending romance and back plot of what happened to Yumeko, these two elements are blended well. Now there is a second season coming, season one ended on a good note and makes me excited for what will happen. This anime has something for everyone to latch onto, romance, backplot, plus size female lead, hilarious comedy, you’ll have a good time.

Wohoo! So I guess I watched a lot but that’s not even me covering everything haha honestly. People really seem to enjoy these diary entries and definitely will keep them going as part of regular content I have decided for the blog. I may not always be able to discuss every single series I watch so doing this helps out a lot. I truly have enjoyed what I’ve watched since last entry and hope the next entry will be even longer ahaha.

Feel free to tell me what series has stood out for you lately and I’ll add to my list!

See you next post!
