Impressions:
This, on the other hand, I also expect mediocrity, and it’s instead remaining a tad better than expected. Every character not being entirely up their own asses yet dumb as a sack of bricks helps a lot, Wistoria. I was settling in for an awful episode of exposition where we learn all about the dumb minutia of magic, then it also apparently got bored of that, montaged its way to six months later, and now she’s a fully functional plant wizard. Sure, the whole “can only use one specific flavor of magic” is dumb as something she never learned, but it’s five minutes into the episode and we’ve moved past it.
And five minutes after that, we’re fighting a giant golem. A CGI golem,and it was all a test to see who would Do Their Best™, so, again, we’re nowhere near excelling. Regardless, no stills, exposition wasn’t necessary, but coming off Wistoria repeating the same thing with every character being dense as a rock but ultra serious, these idiots are brusque and insightful. At least when it puts the cat asses away, which it thankfully did and then wisely decided to not bring up again for the rest of the episode.
