During today’s Nintendo Direct Stream, Nintendo revealed that a playable demo would be released for the upcoming Star Fox game for the Nintendo Switch 2, which lands worldwide on the 25th June 2026. Digital pre-orders are available through the Nintendo eShop with physical edition pre-orders also available through retailers and the Nintendo Store.
This Nintendo Switch 2 version of Star Fox is a modern-day-remake of Star Fox 64, known as Lylat Wars in Europe, which sees the Star Fox team on a mission to stop Andross from taking control of the galaxy. The newly released demo gives players the oppurunity to play through the Training Stage and the second level in the game, Meteo. The demo not only allows you to playthrough these levels, but you can do so with Mouse Mode Controls and enjoy the cinematic cut-scenes leading in and out of each mission.
As a reminder new features include three difficulty options for the main campaign, with challenges available for each mission that differ between normal and expert difficulty, support for the Nintendo Switch 2 Mouse Mode function, which allows a second player to fly or control aiming, and online multiplayer that can be enjoyed through GameShare and GameChat. Speaking of GameChat, you can use a compatible Nintendo Switch Camera to convert your face into that of Fox McLoud and it will copy your facial movements on screen.
Star Fox 64 is currently playable on the Nintendo 64 Classics App for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 conosles; but in the meantime this new Star Fox game is expected to launch on 25th June 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
