At least he wasn’t coerced, so one step above slave.
Impressions:
A bit late for the maid/butler fad, and this is not making a good case for bringing it back. Any time I think back to shows like KimiAru or even Hayate the Combat Butler as a favorable comparison, that’s probably not a good sign. Even Ladies vs Butlers at least had a cavalcade of fanservice and gropings. This one’s schtick is that the girl is completely incompetent at literally everything, even drinking water. And he distinguished himself by… nothing. Existing. Barely.
Which I feel is the big difference between the better things of yore and the modern fanservice crap. The protagonist still had to do something to win them over. Stand up for them against some bully, or a yipping dog, or somehow distinguish themself in literally any way. This has its one gag and a doormat of a protagonist who is capable of internally narrating all manner of paragraphs describing the current situation in which he finds himself, but is never capable of saying no. Or that he has any urge to do anything whatsoever except morosely accept what is happening. Which he is also describing.
