EHHHHHHHHHHHH!?
I did glance at Tanya’s first episode since I technically finished the first season… nine damn years ago. It was just as full of meetings and boring as I barely remembered.
Impressions:
At least it’s pretty expressive and fairly well animated, but good lord, does it run its singular joke into the ground. Or are there two jokes? Because there’s them making a scary face, and then being hyper excited and positive, and the main character screaming “EEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHH!?” Sometimes, there’s extra setup where she internally narrates a whole paragraph about how they’re making a scary face, but that’s usually just for the latter joke. The screamed one. I can only say that they’re two separate jokes because sometimes it foregoes the “EEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH!?”
I guess if you’re tired of shows with titles or premises like “The Evil Duke Is Actually Nice” or “The Saint Is Sold To an Evil Kingdom Which Is Actually Paradise” and want that replaced with squabbling siblings, it… exists. And does legitimately have a slightly different vibe, though that could be the loudness talking. Or maybe the lack of threatened sexual slavery. But for as much hay as it wants to make over being unwaveringly supportive to family no matter what, that’s the same as all those things. And it’s the same doormat downer protagonist who spends the entire episode as a prop, internally narrating overwrought explanations as to why everything must be taken in the worst light just to eternally be shocked, and largely the same jokes and visuals. Louder and with more animation than usual, which isn’t nothing, but my ears can only take so much abuse, even on Wednesdays which have… uh… maybe Thunder 3? If that’s even a show that actually exists?
