Some things in anime never change.
Impressions:
As I begin the culling, this has the advantage over other Thursday shows of airing super early while most air unusually late, especially Caramelise. And not being some obnoxious cheat power reincarnation, obviously, or the promise of exceptional grossness of that cat show making me dread what a second episode might bring. But this may be where I call it, as any comedy that doesn’t threaten to crack a smile is a tough ask. It’s bookended by basically the same joke too. Some slovenly middle aged person who looks like a weird pervert breathlessly huffs and pants over a child. The man is innocent. The woman is not. Which I guess is the joke, men being predators (but not this one) and women being not predators (but not this one). Expectations subverted. Comedy achieved. Hilarity.
The middle was more of the same. Her backstory is just not that interesting, and they can repeat the ‘joke’ about her being surprised by some modern thing like soda, or the kids not being scared by her, as much as they want. It’s not getting any funnier than where it started, and it wasn’t a good joke in the first place. That mermaid girl casually ripping up fish without a second thought was more of a monster than this, not to mention a more unsettling gag that elicits uncomfortable laughter if nothing else.
