Gun Blaze #05 — Restatement of Mission Charter

Thanks. It had been almost ten minutes since the last time you repeated it.

Impressions:

You’re burning me out lately, anime. This episode was just tedious. Twelve minutes of briefing for a mission to go check out some random abandoned warehouse. Not even full of monsters. Full of nothing. There is literally nothing there, but the two groups, who BOTH had to have briefings, which is why it took ten minutes to get through them. Then another couple minutes of transit nap time, then a minute for the transformation sequences, and now we’re nearly fifteen minutes into the episode and are just starting to look around. Again, at the nothing that is there. Or is it not there?

But then they finally meet and fight, yeah? The usual misunderstandings or whatever? Nope. Guess again. I can name 100% of the attacks that the characters used because there were I think five in total, one a minute. I don’t even know which of the three was most pathetic. Shiina facetanked three explosions, shot magical tie-’em-up bullets, and then everyone wandered off. Nanoha’s almost seemed like it was starting, but then she decided to recite the team’s entire mission statement and rehash the premise, and again, everyone wandered off. Fate, meanwhile, just stood there until some explosions, and then everyone wandered off. Is this satisfying action? Do we need more cut-ins with the skill name and a paragraph explaining what it does? Have we completely forgotten how to compose an action scene? Combined with the horrific pacing, this ain’t reviving the Nanoha franchise, guys.
