WE AREN’T GETTING slack on our posts haha, the motivation hasn’t been there lately but today it is here!
This is a check in really as August is here and where the fudge ?!? 6 months well and truly flew by and now thinking about how I wish to make the next 6 months memorable. Online wise with the podcast I am happiest with mostly only missing one month this year of achieving two episodes per month. Blog and AMV stuff has been on and off but I wanted it to be that way, how I feel now, definitley wish to work on those areas more with whatever remaining free time I have as it’s condensed a lot. Since the beginning of this year free time was an abundance but things changed, had to find a new slot somewhere for just “me time” which has been working out. I do not believe in the saying ‘I have no time”from a personal view and from reading Tranquility Tuesday by Laura Vanderkam you definitley see a different perspective of what were doing with 168 hours of our time.
Avcon July
So something fun and refreshing I did last month was attend the first anime convention I ever went to. It had been six years since I last went, My friend who came was her first time attending, it’s exciting watching someone else going through that phase you once did. Avcon I would describe as a good introduction to the convention world for anyone who has never attended before, they have changed venues from last I attended and it was for the better.
Apologies I only took so many photos, I get immersed in the moment more these days and forget, haha trying to take more at events like this. One thing I liked the convention did was the return of competitions they stopped years ago like fanfiction, fanfiction 18+, AMV, manga design to name a few. That made me happy to see as when they stripped that away, it took apart of the fun with it. I entered the AMV for this year and no didn’t make to the finals but it was showcased on the Sunday. The best kind of self promotion it’s a win to me.
Vendors choices were alright in prior years, it has been better but the artist alley was the star attraction for me. Over 200 artists there and I found some goodies i’ll add to my anime convention folder I’ve compiled for different cons. A first time thing I did was attend maid cafe (my friend was very eager), she managed to convince me and it was a pleasant experience. It was weird that we had a maid dedicated to just us and asked we wanted to play board game with them. The concept in Japan compared to what I experienced is so different I know that, nonetheless was a good way to decompress.
I could have cosplayed but my Jupiter dress was calling to come out honestly, so many people complimented it though which was funny! My other favourite thing was playing some of the new indie games as there is always a indie hub every year. I have a couple I wish to keep a lookout for (I have forgotten the names but I took a photo of because I knew this would happen haha). Got to do some VR experience which was pretty cool, I’ve done VR before but that was a escape room experience. This was killing zombies from memory and was pretty fun.
One thing I can say that matters when attending cons you go with people who like to go with the flow, it was a different experience this time. More chilled and less concrete plans like previous years. Going with the right people really does matter. Overall it was a great day, the previous years going are some of the most memorable, chaotic, busy but exciting. Maybe as a get older I’m liking the slow down option a bit more but nothing could stop a full on con weekend every now and then.
Alright . . I have some exciting news for me to announce.
Next april I am going to Japan land!!!
I don’t have to dream anymore. . . I don’t have to wander like I have been since getting into anime. It’s really happening!! I haven’t been overseas since moving to Australia so you can imagine how excited I am. Everyone in my life has practically been and nothing but good things. So I will be visiting Osaka 3 days , Kyoto 3 days and Tokyo 4 days included in there is staying a traditional villa at the base of Mount Fuiji for a tea ceremony experience. Pretty much have the whole itinerary is set but I would be happy to hear my friends here who have been to Japan please feel free to suggest places to see, food to eat and comment anything that you think would be useful to know!
Next post definitley will be a anime diary as it’s been a good while and we have been watching a ton!
See you next post!
