Au Revoir, Lara #09 — The Aquarium Cleaning Episode

Excitement never ceases.

Impressions:

As usual, the only interesting part is the last couple minutes, and mostly because it’s largely incomprehensible. Lara, after eight damn episodes, finally decides that she’s desperate after all, and this, predictably, immediately freaks Luca out, and because we still haven’t learned that the world doesn’t revolve around Lara and her own needs (to be fair, this world does), his hesitation instantly makes her heart-fish-sword-monster try to kill him. Which seems like a pretty good reason to not want to be involved with her too. Instead of dealing with her literally weaponized and gigantic murderous insecurities and projections made flesh, everyone starts transforming into monsters and leaps away to parts unknown to do… uh… the magical… uh… thing. You ain’t colorful nor have enough songs to be all Disney, so treat relationships better than this.

But there’s still the other 95% of the episode. Which is another boring ass date. All of it. Okay, so some is a montage too. And recap. Remember that one girl from… episode 3 I think? The one whose childhood friend rejected her? She’s back. Just to do recap. Cool. Great. We have witch fish monsters and giant ravenous insecurities floating in the sky, and we’re getting recap from a one-off. Amazing use of time. I’d say bring on the next season already, but I’ve looked at it, and… man, the cheat power RPG trend is going to bury us all.
