A lot of those gun hiding places seem incredibly suspect.
I’m not sure what the deal with the crow show is, but it’s an NHK-only show, and I get the impression that the old-school rippers no longer exist with just downloading streams being so much easier, so it may be in the void for a while.
Impressions:
I think this really needed to go a lot faster and really up the comedy. It’s trying to go for a similar vibe as Under Ninja, but it’s significantly slower paced and has far fewer ridiculous things. The childishness of the protagonist comes across as more autism-coded than detached, and that makes the few jokes pretty awkward. And there are only a very few number of jokes in the episode, which also makes its identity pretty confused. Don’t expect a barrage like Cromartie despite the facial expressions.
Is it actually trying to be a bit of an absurdist comedy of a professional assassin trying to fit in with the local neighborhood and having to deal with Karen of the HOA’s brand of evil instead of yakuza? Or is this a kind of Mr. and Mrs. Smith sort of deal? Having flipped through the manga briefly, I have a bit of an idea myself, but that doesn’t commit too much to either side, and the adaptation here is moving so glacially that I think that issue is going to be exacerbated. And especially after the Jellyfish show, the poor animation/presentation and droning vocals really puts you to sleep.
