Anime Limited, in partnership with PLAION Pictures, have today announced through an article on ScreenDaily, that they have acquired the distribution rights for Mamoru Hosoda’s film catalogue within UK, Germany, France and Italy.
In the UK this means that Anime Limited (All The Anime) now have the theatrical, digital and home video (Blu-Ray and DVD) rights to The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children. All three of these films have previously been released in the UK by Manga Entertainment, but now they are licensed by Anime Limited alongside MIRAI and BELLE.
It seems the only Mamoru Hosoda film(s) not licensed by Anime Limited in the UK is the 2015 film The Boy and the Beast, of which was released by STUDIOCANAL, and (for completion sake) the Japanese only Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure: Our War Game films which eventually became part of Digimon: The Movie when it was adapted for western release as well as One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island. Interestingly PLAION Pictures did acquire The Boy and the Beast for Germany and Italy, with PLAION Pictures also acquiring the other films previously mentioned for France, Germany and Italy.
Interestingly, that’s not the only good news for Mamoru Hosoda fans, as it was also reported that Anime Limited (and PLAION Pictures) are working on a “World of Mamoru Hosoda” theatrical season. This theatrical season will see the previously mentioned films shown in cinemas for a limited time before being released on home video. Details about this cinematic event have not yet been confirmed, but if you wanted to watch these films in cinemas then this would be the perfect opportunity to do so.
Regardless, Anime Limited have now acquired The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children for UK distribution and we can expect to hear more about these titles in the near future.
