Better than more closeups of eyes.
Impressions:
Sound designers/background music were having… a bit of an episode this week, huh? No idea what was going on there. I’m not even sure how to describe it. A lot of it felt like it belonged in a Wario Ware game. Also, wrapping up the previous episode in the first five minutes and then dropping it for a completely new/different arc… really seems like you probably could’ve just cut out some of the close-ups of eyes and deranged screaming and fit that into a cohesive single episode. But now we’re doubling down on that, because with only about 13 minutes for the new episode, it gets cut off right when the first real bit of adversity pops up.
This new arc is to introduce the thief dude, though since they only get halfway… a third… however much through it, it’s not much of an introduction. He wants to be edgy, but Tokiyuki is enthusiastic instead. It’s not exactly brimming with humor, but it does provide a break from screaming adults and closeups of bulging eyes, so at least for an episode, it’s a welcome respite. The whole recruitment could’ve been better too. He wants a ton of money, but Tokiyuki says that a fief would be even more valuable, so that’s actually cheap, and… that’s enough to convince him, despite this being some random small child with no ability right now or in the near future to give him anything whatsoever. Trading in the eye dude for the ear dude is also not great, but that’s a problem for next week.
