Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club Demo Available on Nintendo eShop

A playable demo for the upcoming interactive mystery visual novel Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is now available to download from the Nintendo eShop worldwide, with the full game due for release on 29th August 2024.

The newly released playable demo, which is presented in Japanese with subtitles/text, allows players to experience a brief portion of the game in addition to the entire prologue of the game. In the games players will take control of the protagonist, who they can name, as they work with the police the uncover the truth behind the mysterious series of events that are unfolding within the town. As part of the game players will need to ask (and listen) to people and investigate the surrounding areas to uncover the truth.

About: Student Eisuke Sasaki has been found dead in a chilling fashion, with a smiley-faced paper bag over his head. This unsettling visage bears a striking resemblance to a recurring clue in a string of unsolved murders from 18 years ago—as well as the urban legend Emio, a.k.a. the Smiling Man, a serial killer said to grant his victims “a permanent smile.”

Does the Smiling Man really exist…or is a new culprit continuing his legacy? As a member of the Utsugi Detective Agency, you’ve been tasked with investigating the events that led to Eisuke Sasaki’s death. Along the way, scrutinize the clues and testimonies you gather for potential connections to the gruesome events of the past.

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club will be available for the Nintendo Switch on 29th August 2024 with both a physical and digital edition being released (physical edition is also available to pre-order from Amazon UK). The demo meanwhile is currently available to download from the Nintendo eShop.
