Netflix have recently announced that the new anime adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi’s manga of the same name, Ranma 1/2, will begin streaming on 5th October 2024. The series is expected to stream globally on this date, with Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand & Indonesia receiving it on the 6th October 2024 due to the different time zones. A listing is also available on Netflix UK.
The manga, which was originally printed in Japan’s Shōnen Sunday Comics before being released as individual volumes, ran from 1987 until 1996 and saw an anime adaptation in 1989. Interestingly the first season of the 1989 anime was reportedly cancelled due to poor TV ratings, but was then reworked and given a different time slot which saw an additional 143 episodes and ran until 1992. History aside, this new adaptation will bring new life into an old story, and judging from the trailer it mixes both new and classic together.
About: Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo’s parents have arranged for them to get married. However, there’s a problem: whenever Ranma is splashed with cold water, he turns into a girl! The stage is set for a slapstick martial arts rom-com filled with quirky characters!
Ranma 1/2 will be available to stream from 5th October 2024 on Netflix, and it is expected that episodes will be released on a weekly basis. You can add Ranmna1/2 to your Netflix watchlist here.
