Mayonaka Punch Review — B

Vampires become youtubers.

My favorite part of this show was the main character, who is just such a selfish awful person. It’s great. And in the first episode she gets her comeuppance and continues dealing with that for the rest of the show trying to recover.

It’s a very goofy show which clearly has a lot of love for youtuber culture (I honestly don’t watch much youtube so can’t say much about this) but I love how it blurs the lines between reality and the videos where half the time you think some serious shit is going down but then it’s actually some prank video, and half the time you think it is some ridiculous video about binge eating but actually some serious shit is going down. It had a very goofy sense of humor, I loved how the characters all had some depth to them and weren’t just one trait (for example, the shy girl can actually get extremely passionate and not at all shy) and the animation is excellent. Really liked the ending song too.

I did feel the overarching story was not the show’s strongest point, but each episode was fun.

Storytelling – B – Good sense of humor.
Voice – A – Lots of personality.
Characters – B – Liked the main character and the side characters. Liz was a bit weaker in my opinion.
Attention Grab – B – Kept my interest.
Production – A – Looks great. Good music.
Overall – B

Recommendations – Surprised there haven’t been more shows about youtubers when you hear that it’s the most popular career choice for children. There was that crappy vtuber show a couple seasons ago but can’t recommend it.
