Haigakura #01 — The Dance of Zero Animation

Don’t put too much effort in here.

Impressions:

I can’t help but think of this episode supposed big moment is emblematic of the failing of most shows. They go to save the evil slaver dude from the monsters he’s caused to go berserk with the power of their magical song and dance. The dance is… just some stills of him posing. Zero animation whatsoever. It’s precisely that gag from Futurama, except done entirely seriously. The song is cacophonic screaming that they try to make out to be sort of like deathcore, though really it’s just a dude yelling with a bass track. Both are sad and pathetic.

But action is clearly not the focus of the show. Very pretty boys in elaborate dresses making silly faces at each other is. It’s definitely not the story. The conflict of the week is them coming across an abusive slaver who beats his pet minotaur and then yells about how evil he is until they beat him up and declare job well done and wander off. But they protect humans from berserk monsters, so are back to save him and he learns a valuable lesson, SUPPOSEDLY, by his slave being chibified, and will definitely stop beating it now that it’s useless.
