For those that didn’t attend MCM x EGX this weekend, or follow us on social media, Crunchyroll have revealed that they will release the original Sailor Moon TV anime on Blu-Ray and DVD in 2025.
The news was revealed on the Crunchyroll booth at MCM x EGX this past weekend, with a large poster on the left side of the booth featuring a visual of the series, release formats and a release year.
Specific details about this UK Blu-ray (and DVD) release of Sailor Moon have yet to be confirmed, but it is safe to assume it will be the uncut version with the VIZ Media produced English Dub and original Japanese audio (with English subtitles). This uncut version of Sailor Moon was released by VIZ Media in the US, and then later Madman Entertainment (who rebranded into Crunchyroll) in Australia.
This is exciting news for UK anime fans, as Sailor Moon has not had a UK release (other than Sailor Moon Eternal and Sailor Moon Cosmos on Netflix) since the edited DiC English Dub DVD releases from MVM Entertainment nearly two decades ago.
Synopsis: Usagi Tsukino is a cheerful schoolgirl who often finds herself in unwanted trouble. One day, she saves a talking cat named Luna who gives Usagi a brooch that transforms her into Sailor Moon, guardian of love and justice!
This Sailor Moon anime originally began broadcasting in Japan in 1992 and adapted the manga of the same name by Naoko Takeuchi into a TV anime. The 90’s anime version of Sailor Moon was animated by TOEI Animation and saw five different seasons (Season 1, R, S, SuperS, and Sailor Stars) produced along with three movies.
As it stands, all we know is that Sailor Moon is coming to the UK in 2025 by Crunchyroll and that it will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD. Once we know more confirmed details we’ll be sure to share them.
