Still making this joke, huh.
Impressions:
For a while, it looked like we were going to be stuck dealing with Okraun being an awkward imbecile the entire episode. Then it swapped to the pink girl who speedran going from irritating cliche bully to obnoxious gag character. Most of the episode was spent on characters loudly overreacting to basically nothing, and neither of them have much redeeming about them. The pink thing is still in the process of being introduced, but Okarun is well past the period where he should stop reacting to literally everything by screaming wildly while also never getting to the point. Also, at least she moved things back into the direction of monster fighting.
Right up until the last five minutes of the episode was almost all monsters yapping at each other before a very poorly set up moment of triumph. The cross smelled oily, which was the clue that it was actually not a cross at all, but a lighter. That alone was bad enough, but the monster’s weakness, which had not been alluded to or mentioned at all, was that it couldn’t eat pieces of itself? And if it did, it became ultra super duper mega flammable? Out of left field barely even begins to describe that sudden bit of info dump and explosion from nowhere, which ends it on more of “Uh, what” than “oh boy, now the real fight begins.” Though from the next episode preview, it looks more like “Oh boy, now the weepy flashback begins.”
