Loser Ranger #24 — Victory March of the Side Characters

…Why are we bringing back and highlighting all these idiots at the last minute again?

Impressions:

Pretty weak ending. Nothing compared to Lazarus’s, but why are we focused on all these random tertiary characters who were absent the entire season? Why are the Rangers, mostly the antagonists of the show, getting the top billing in the end? They really just sat off-screen waiting for everybody else to put in the effort? Did we really just pop back to status quo as usual after all the minions came together to save a bunch of people? Even the supposedly good monster that all this was centered on ended up never having actually died and just been sleeping inside Angel, and it too immediately wanted to kill all humans. Which is also kind of weird because then that one fusion monster turns out to not want to kill all humans and is joined the new resistance that I guess will be the antagonists for the next season, should it have one, because we teased that as another dangling plot thread since the original Hibiki didn’t do squat this season. And, of course, the big boss is invulnerable to everything, until the main characters declare that they have a plan, whereupon he becomes vulnerable to everything.

Both arcs this season were pretty bad. The first was somewhat more focused but hinged on a lot of half-assed rules lawyering when the rules were ill defined and never made sense in the first place, while the second was simply all over the place in terms of both characters and writing. Janky pacing is probably the best way to sum it up. A lot got glossed over and made it feel random, while the particularly nonsensical parts got dragged out or repeated ad nauseum, especially the supposed ‘peaceful’ monster society schtick. The production was also not stellar even in the first season, but it was a drastic step down this season, especially for the school arc, which did everything else no favors either.
