It seems Film4 will be treating anime fans this holiday season, as according to Ghibliotheque they plan to broadcast YOUR NAME and WEATHERING WITH YOU on UK TV this December with the films then being made available to stream on the Channel 4 Streaming Service.
At the time of writing we do not know which version of the films will be broadcast (dubbed or subbed) or its broadcast time on TV, but we do know that YOUR NAME will be shown on 14th December 2023 with WEATHERING WITH YOU shown on 15th December 2023. Both films will then become available to stream on the Channel 4 streaming service afterwards.
This will be the first time that either film has been shown on UK TV, and more importantly it will be on a channel that is easily accessible within the UK. Film4 is not only broadcast on Freeview (Channel 14), but is also available on Sky, Freesat and Virgin Media with the channel also available to stream online. A +1 channel is also available on Freeview and Satellite services.
It not unusual for Film4 to broadcast anime films, as over the many years of service the channel has held a wide selection of Studio Ghibli seasons and even showed Studio Ponoc’s Mary and the Witch’s Flower and the original Ghost in the Shell film by Mamoru Oshii. Either way, it is exciting news to hear that these films will be broadcast on TV in the UK, as it shows that anime is growing in popularity, but in the meantime both YOUR NAME and WEATHERING WITH YOU are available in the UK on DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K Blu-Ray via Anime Limited (otherwise known as All The Anime).
