Why has no other director discovered this genius approach to drama?
Impressions:
I would say that it doesn’t understand streaming at all, but then it also has people using ramen noodles as flails, a dude kicking in the door to a not-McDonalds to scream at a cashier and everybody’s like “well, he’s a streamer, and they’re allowed to do that,” and viral videos pay out in cash, instantly. Also, hospitals love it when you pay in cash. They’re also the only place in the entire city that adults are allowed to exist. So there’s… a lot… here above and beyond the nonsensical premise that this show supposedly about a relatively realistic modern society has decided that we’re just meant to run with despite being jarring nonsense that it has to keep explaining unconvincingly is actually totally normal.
And explain at length is the name of the game here. The animation is terrible, though that should be obvious just based on how many reaction faces with speedlines there are to really slam home every single twist and turn of the story. The characters cannot express a thought without yelling it. No event can occur without it beind self-narrated and a shocked reaction. Everything is absurdly over the top, but it is definitely not satire or comedy. He can’t just be bullied, he needs to spend two hours in the makeup chair to be gourmet maltraiter. Don’t @ me about my French.
