Quality Assurance in Another World Review — B+

A debugger is trapped in another world.

I quite enjoyed this. It’s basically Sword Art Online, except instead of Kirito we get a debugger who continues to do his job methodically and thoroughly while trapped in the game as everyone around him descends into madness. It’s really quite fascinating how the way the story is told it portrays him as being the only reasonable one in a world gone mad but when you think about it for just a little he’s really the nuttiest of them all, continuing to send these bug reports to people at this faceless company who have trapped him in this game which will clearly never be released and for which if he ever survives this his damages from suing the company out of existence will make any wages for doing his job seem trite.

Anyway, the structure of the story is similar to the main character in a very odd way— it’s somewhat bizarre and unpredictable, important plot points rely on game bugs, and you end up in odd situations like half of the final episode being dedicated to cheating at gambling in a casino but then it turns out that none of this mattered at all because the main character shows up and glitches his way out of the situation.

Hope this gets a sequel, ended very abruptly in the middle although they made it a high point with Nicola developing some determination.

Storytelling – B – Weird but it worked.
Voice – B – Unique take on an overused setting.
Characters – B – Quite enjoyed them.
Attention Grab – B – Finished without trouble.
Production – B – Looks good.
Overall – B+
