I guess we get what we expected.
Jury’s still out if I’ll post about the other shows today (Apoc Touring, Kamen Rider, and sister friend harem), but from the couple I glanced at, it’s an ehhhhh. I need to run errands now though, so later.
Impressions:
I was curious how they were going to try to make the whole Among Us schtick intveeresting, and the answer was the most obvious. They weren’t. I don’t think that it’s a hopeless endeavor. Just do it like a horror movie where they have to respond to some crisis, split up, scary things happen, someone is revealed to have been killed, accusations fly, etc. But the game this is based on itself is just a subset of randomly chosen people sitting in a room saying one of about 10 canned lines which are just “I think X is suspicious” or “I disagree with Y.” And so the anime is… just a subset of randomly chosen people sitting in a room saying “I think X is suspicious,” or “I disagree with Y.” Instead of a single game iteration taking two minutes, it takes twenty five. Presumably to fit in all the exposition, and especially the mispronunciation of ‘gnosia,’ or should I say ‘gee-no-shee-ah.’
It was far from a good mystery. There are serious roleplaying Among Us groups crafting more compelling narratives than this 25 minute long episode. I don’t think the extra 5 minutes of runtime did the pacing any favors. The baddie being the most obvious person who was constantly being antagonistic also feels like an odd choice. You’d think if we were going for a mystery and unexpected twists kind of premise, you’d want to start out with the first reveal being a surprise one, not the most painfully obvious choice in the room, which I guess leads into the main character being terrible and an idiot on top of barely being able to interact with anybody other than stare blankly. Also not something that ever works out in a serious mystery.
