Wow. Cleavage.
Impressions:
I think I find this more tolerable than that Chitose Ramune thing, but I’m not certain I can put my find on why exactly. I suspect that the chemistry between the characters is just a little bit better. As is the script. There’s more back and forth between them instead of everybody constantly announcing how amazing and incredible he is. Which they do a bit here too, but there’s a little more of that kind of SeiZon dynamic where scenes often end with a more good natured reassurance that they care about each other despite the bickering. It’s definitely handling its leadup and introduction of ‘fixing’ a hostile classmate shut-in smoother by being less over the top in any case.
It is absolutely far more trashy and over the top, which feels like it should be a negative, but honestly, given the path anime has taken over the last ten years, is actually kind of refreshing. Or maybe that’s just nostalgia for a better time talking. I’m not sure I want to praise it for that though. I’m also not much of a fan of the teacher character. Swap the genders to make her a masochist dude only into 13 year old girls, and hoo boy. The whole thing taking place in a medieval torture dungeon is also… a choice, especially given the inverse dynamic of him tormenting her, deservedly or not for the weird work relationship. Everything would be so much more palatable if you aged up every character 5 years.
