May I Request One Last Thing #04 — Team Rocket is Blasting Off Again

Oops, no budget.

Impressions:

This show is getting really close to that Back Arrow/Cross Ange/Bye Bye Earth line where the writing becomes so nonstop terrible with it spewing out one nonsensical thing after the next, that it breaks through and becomes kind of fascinating again as an anthropological study. It’s not there yet. This episode was still just bad and nonsensical. The party that featured literally the entire city’s nobility, fully catered and an entire orchestra in attendance, yet also had room for the entire kingdom’s army hiding right outside with none the wiser. The ‘fight’ that was nothing but stills. That the entire plan was just “walk in and start punching”. People were paid to write and animate this. That alone is an indictment against the anime industry.

Then we get to the final third of the episode. A dude flies in out of nowhere on a dragon and tries to murder the big bads for being garbage people, but she stops him because they must face their just punishment or whatever. But oops, he’s actually a comic relief character, and spends the next five minutes of the episode doing jokey slapstick until he’s thrown into the sky. Literally a Team Rocket is blasting off again ending for this guy who popped up out of literally nowhere, just to do bad gags. So we return to big bads, whose dastardly schemes thus far in this episode have been *checks notes* organizing a catered party, who are all “You thought this wasn’t a reincarnation villainess story? Ha ha! It was one all along! What a twist!” It already was one. It was always one. What are you talking about, you weird, stupid thing?
