Ghost Concert #09 — Nobody Likes a Critic

Even the evil spirits don’t want to listen to more character songs.

Impressions:

As ever, I can’t follow things at all. Apparently there’s some kind of giant cauldron, and their plan is to blow it up, but evil spirits really hate Nero’s singing, so before they blow it up, they need to restrain and capture it. But everybody except for one random dude can’t wait to betray Nero, so the rescue goes off without a hitch, until Nero uses his power to throw fireballs. Invisibly. But they already had a magic shield up, except Riku is there to save them with the help of the entire witch civilization that apparently follows her now that she murdered their leader.

It’s only halfway through the episode and more has happened while being less comprehensible than the other four shows I’m watching combined. At this point, Nero stabs himself to summon a scythe, which transforms into a ball that shoots beams. Which means the samurai guy has to do a kamikaze hug in order to… transform it back into a regular scythe and gives the sword girl the resolve to punch Nero in the face, which makes him explode, I guess? Or maybe vaporizes him? Just attempting to summarize episodes of this show feels like a mental workout.

I don’t even want to talk about how much of a mess it’s making of its themes. You’re only allowed to make art if you’re good at it, they yell at Nero. I dunno about that, guys. Maybe chastise him for the kidnapping, slaving, and megalomaniacal dreams of world conquest, not for liking to sing despite being tone deaf.
