Love Cannot Be Seen #01 — Savior Complex

Where would we be without some sad sack loser to take care of us.

Impressions:

AKA “I Fell in Love With You As We Ran Under the Clear Night Sky, a Love That Cannot Be Seen.” And boy howdy, this one is not beating the rap. Look how unattractive all those confident, loud boys are. Nothing like our innocuous withdrawn mopey sad sack protagonist. He’s mopey because he hasn’t met the right girl yet. And here we are. A quirky blind girl. Look at how she fumbles around without him there to help her. How pathetic she is crawling around on the floor after dropping her cane. She needs him to live a life with dignity, but he’s reluctant because he’s so withdrawn. But she’s so quirky and always cheerful and smiling even though he’s so mopey and withdrawn.

Did I get the repetition and complete lack of all personality across? Or do I need to repeat that he’s mopey like he does another seven dozen times. The savior complex here is quite painful, and it’s hard to take it at face value when he hems and haws for minutes on end over doing even the most obligatory polite gestures. If even picking up something someone dropped is this much of a burden on your psyche, you may just be a jackass, and not the nice inoffensive every-boy that the writing is trying to make you out to be. But don’t worry, it’s not like there’s any plot or story going on either besides “boy saves blind girl from herself despite his insecurity.” And given that I know how the light novel goes, it’s only going to get way way worse from here.
