STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is a remake of the original STEINS;GATE game that released in 2009 onto the Xbox 360 in Japan, and will feature updated visuals and new narrative content. STEINS;GATE is a time-travelling visual novel experience with multiple endings and uniquely crafted artwork, and as such this RE:BOOT edition will feature refined character illustrations by character designer huke, along with event stills produced under huke’s supervision. Additionally background visuals will once again re-create Akihabara, and its surrounding area, as it appeared in 2010 by utilizing reference material.

Key Features:

Scenarios with Improved Readability:
Based on the scenario from STEINS;GATE ELITE, the story has been refined to be more evenly paced, with an overall smoother reading experience. Along with new dialogue and narrative text, a brand-new worldline and ending scenario have been added, bringing players a story never before seen. The game features a substantially expanded volume of text, delivering a richer story experience.

Newly Recorded Voices and Sound:
All in-game voice lines have been newly recorded in Japanese, while the entire soundtrack has been remade by Composer Tsuyoshi Abo.

Revamped Graphics:
All character art, backgrounds, and event still images have been completely redrawn from scratch, resulting in a major visual revamp. Compared to the original Xbox 360 version, the number of event still images has approximately doubled, while the number of background visuals has increased by roughly 20%. The expanded volume of artwork delivers an even more immersive experience.

Dynamic Character Expressions with E-mote:
By utilizing the next-generation animation tool “E-mote”, characters are brought to life with vivid realism. From subtle changes in facial expressions to natural breathing, these nuances take immersion in the story to new heights. Watch the video below for an E-mote demonstration.

MAGES. and Spike Chunsoft also revealed details for STEINS;GATE Octet of Shifting Space, an adaptation of a game that originally released onto Windows PC in 2011.  Inspired by the premise of “What if STEINS;GATE were recreated on a PC from the 1980s?”, the title captures the look and feel of an 8-bit PC adventure game while becoming fully compatible with both software keyboards and USB keyboards for modern gaming platforms. Details on how this game will be released have not yet been revealed, but it is planned for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.

STEINS;GATE Octet of Shifting Space Details:

Utilizing Text Parser Gameplay from the Early Days of Adventure Games: Take on the role of Rintaro Okabe and explore the streets of Akihabara alongside your fellow lab members in pursuit of the IBN 5100, which has once again been stolen. Instead of the choice-based gameplay common to modern visual novels, STEINS;GATE Octet of Shifting Space recreates the text parser gameplay that defined adventure games of the 1980s. Advance the story by freely entering English commands. Use your imagination and deduction skills to discover the right actions and uncover the path forward.

Classic Screen-Drawing Visuals
Early adventure games rendered their graphics by drawing each line then filling the image with color. The game faithfully recreates this classic screen-drawing process. Even the anticipation of watching graphics gradually appear on screen captures the charm of a bygone era. Players who prefer a faster pace can skip the drawing animation at any time with the press of a button.

Graphics Modes Inspired by Classic PCs
Graphics modes capture the nostalgic charm of vintage hardware by recreating the capabilities of PCs from the 1980s. Players can enjoy everything from classic 8-color digital RGB graphics to visuals inspired by green monochrome monitors. The sound experience is equally authentic, recreating the FM synthesis and PSG sound chips used by classic PCs. Even differences in hardware specifications, such as three FM channels plus three PSG channels, have been recreated to deliver an authentic listening experience. The music was personally handled by Composer Takeshi Abo.

STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is currently planned for a 2026 release on Steam (for Windows PC) and will feature Japanese audio with English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese text/subtitle support. The original STEINS;GATE is also available on Steam with the same language options. The Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game will be available on 29th October 2026 in both physical and digital format in the UK and Europe.
