Gun Blaze #04 — Reminiscing

Twenty straight minutes of flashbacks and nostalgia baiting. Great.

Impressions:

Ya’ll gonna fight, or even discover each other exists at any point? I feel like this episode shouldn’t have existed at all. It doesn’t add anything to Whose-Her-Face’s backstory. If anything, it detracts from it and makes her a far less sympathetic character. She not only knew that this kid was another torture/experimentation victim without any real control over her powers or actions, but announced that she did right before murdering her. Not only that, but I assumed that she’d be searching for a fire demon for revenge or whatever, hence the Shiina connection, but she… already killed the one who killed her parents. So she just has a hate on for people with fire powers in general? Is that the entire takeaway from the flashback?

It’s all the usual flashback issues, really. We already knew, or at least could very obviously intuit around 98% of what it revealed, and it did nothing whatsoever to advance the story or develop the characters. She was experimented on, she got dumped and picked up, foster parents got incinerated by another one of her fellow experimentees, so now she’s back to emo vengeance girl, which she always was all along. Aside from the cats, dates, friends, secret hideout, and all the graphic design work they put into their logo. It takes a lot of effort to be a nihilistic cat saving girl about town.
