…Okay.
Impressions:
I expected very little, and to its credit, it found ways to not even live up to that. Just a summary I think should make it obvious. We begin with three minutes of recycled footage replaying the last three minutes of the previous episode. Then the OP. So it’s five minutes into the run time before we see any new footage at all. Predictibly, some randos show up to save them, but not the randos that we’ve had rushing to save them for the last three episodes. A completely different, never before seen nor mentioned set of randos, who immediately piss right back off. The next ten minutes are spent in the infirmary, recapping the arc. Now we’re 15 minutes into the episode, and it’s time to check in with one of those complete randos from before for some more recap. Fire Vegeta finally wants to challenge Will, so they go outside, fight for five seconds before it cuts away and goes “See you next season!” The entire fight in this episode was shown in the next episode preview last week.
Terrible ending to the weakest arc in a series of weak arcs. The occasional flashes of animation muscle are all this show has to offer, and the writing gradually falls apart more and more as it has only the one character dynamic between Will and his endless parade of elemental Vegetas. It’s not even a good one! Rarr, I’m noble and racist, and you’re a muggle. But I can swing a sword good. Rarrrgh! I am upset at having been undone and maybe I respect you now but I’ll never admit it. Nobody actually develops, least of all the main character, and definitely not the setting which makes significantly less sense the more they try to explain it. I think this is it for me. The second season will undoubtedly be more of the same, and the ending to this one leaves a pretty bad taste in my mouth.
