Modern cameras exist!
Impressions:
Aah, a girls in a club show. How nostalgic. Though it has a weird start where the lead, for the first time in her life at age 15, discovers that photographs exist and is entranced by them. Then it montages past that part of girls in clubs to the obligatory bit where the club’s in danger and they need to recruit new people. So instead the rest of the episode is spent fangirling over camera technology and harassing cats. It very much felt like it was struggling to maintain a narrative thread the entire episode and was just settling for “girls make silly faces.”
It’s at least all-in on the “girls make silly faces” schtick, which as far as modern Japanese comedies go, isn’t nearly as grating as over-reaction screaming, though there is a bit of that as well. It’s expressive and animated, especially the twintailed one, with plenty of silliness and goofiness going on that can be charming without screaming about it. It reminds me a little bit of Do It Yourself in that regard, but I think that did a bit of a better job with the characters and at least the wisps of a central story, while this is a lot more insubstantial. It’s fine though. Enough to give a second glance next week, but I’d really want to see at least as much substance as a lazy sitcom instead of just making faces at and about cats and that go-pros and panoramic cameras are a thing that exist.
